The Hermes Hotel in Athens is a 3-star hotel, which was renovated in 2016. It has 45 rooms and is located in the heart of Plaka, which places it just a few minutes away from Syntagma and Monastiraki squares. In addition, iconic sites such as the Acropolis, the Agora, the Roman Forum, and more are just a few steps away.

Location
The Hotel is located a few steps from the Monastiraki metro stop, you have to go through plenty of shops. As the hotel is located within the Plaka neighborhood, it is easy to explore the neighborhood and the archaeological sites on foot.
Reception and staff
The reception staff is friendly, you have the possibility to leave your bags, in case you would like to explore more after checking out. They also have free coffee and tea during the day and speak good English and Spanish.
In general, they will help you with any questions you have about the city.
Room
The rooms are comfortable, clean, quite nicely decorated, enough toiletries.
But the best thing is that if you stay three nights or more, which was our case the second time we went, you will be received in the room with: a complimentary bottle of wine.

Bathroom
The marble bathroom was fine, with a clean sink and shower.
The space was enough to take out our things. It wasn’t overflowing with space either, but it was enough. They gave us plenty of shampoo and soap.
Facilities
No complaints about the facilities, the elevator worked great, and you could access the terrace, which is a bar in the summer, from which you can see the acropolis.
If you stay here, don’t forget to check out the sister hotel Plaka so that they let you go up to the terrace, as the views are excellent.
Breakfast
Breakfast is one of the strong points of this hotel, it is VERY WELL ASSORTED. Opening hours, are from 7 to 10 in the morning.
In addition, while you are having your breakfast, hotel staff comes to ask you how you are doing, and they give you tips on the visits you want to make during the day.
We liked the advice very well, since we needed a plan B for the rainy days, and on one of those we had the very manager of the hotel who attended us. Very kind and simple, she got a 10.

The main downside of Hotel Hermes will depend on the time of your trip, as during high season the price per night can become somewhat high, even more than double.
With this, the advantage of affordable accommodation is lost. However, this is something that happens with all the accommodations in the area, unfortunately.
Another downside, although small, is the limited space in the sink area. This may be uncomfortable depending on how many bathroom bags you carry with you.
Our Experience with Hotel Hermes in Athens
As I told you before, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful from the moment we arrived. Our stay in Athens included a transfer to Delphi and since we were coming back to Hotel Hermes, they allowed us to leave one of our suitcases stored. During breakfast, which was delicious, the manager gave us valuable advice on local places to visit and offered us free wine during our stay.
The rooms were well-designed and very clean when we arrived, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom served its purpose and had all the amenities I needed for a pleasant stay.
